To ensure that each film and screenplay is evaluated and graded on its own merits, we established a mechanism that ensures that entries are not judged against one another. They are, in essence, competing against themselves: we judge each item on its own merits and provide a score based on an innate value system. We want to make sure that when it's your moment to be judged, the judges' attention is focused on you and not on all of the other films in the queue; this ensures that they won't be thinking about comparisons when they should be thinking about YOU.
Judges score entries on a performance scale; winning entries are recognized and awarded for Best of Festival and Best of Show and for two levels of Awards of Excellence, two levels of Awards of Merit, and a Kudos Endeavor Award, or no award at all.
The best-scoring entry or entries are given the Best of Festival and Best of Show awards each season. Awards of Excellence are granted to entries with truly exceptional artistic and technical achievements; Awards of Merit and 'Kudos' are given to entries with notable achievements.
